ABOUT US

Juan A. Vendrell gives clinics at his ranch in Texas, the U.S. and overseas. Juan started riding at the age of six in the Spanish tradition ('doma vaquera'). Since the early nineties he has ventured in the world of horsemanship. He has been lucky to have the chance to learn from and work with horsemen such as Alfonso Aguilar, Martin Black, David Alonso, Chris Cox, Mike Sears, Buster McLaury and Craig Cameron and he keeps attending clinics regularly. In 2011 Juan was the first European trainer to participate in the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover in Fort Worth, Texas. In Texas, he collaborates with True Blue Animal Rescue. Juan regularly participates in fairs and events in the U.S. and Europe. In April 2013 and 2014 Juan participated in the Horsemen's Re-Union in Paso Robles, CA, where twenty of the best horsemen from different countries started forty colts in six days. He participated in Equitana in Germany in 2015 and 2017.He was invited as a clinician to Global Equus International in Brazil in 2016. In 2017 Juan was invited by the Mexican Association of Veterinarians specialized in Equines to their international event for Equine Ethology and Handling. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 he was a part of the Mustang Makeover Germany as a judge and clinician. In 2019 he was a clinician at Americana in Germany and at Festival du Cheval in Switzerland. Juan keeps collaborating with different universities such as the University of Vic and the University Autonoma of Barcelona in Spain. His books about Horsemanship have been published in Spanish, German, and French. Apart from the work with colts and 'problem' horses, Juan focuses on helping riders to overcome bad experiences or ride with more confidence.

Juan’s wife Ira is originally from Germany. She started riding at the age of six and has been eager ever since to learn more about horse behavior and training. She has had the opportunity to learn with breeders and trainers in Germany, Spain, Idaho and Texas. She participated in the 2012 Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover in Fort Worth.

We are located in Washington County, the ‘birthplace of Texas', close to Brenham and between Houston and Austin.

OUR SERVICES

          HORSEMANSHIP CLINICS

The clinics focus on helping horse owners to establish a better communication with their horses, both from the ground and in the saddle. This communication is based on knowing and studying the instincts of the horse. Juan’s approach is based on developing our feel and respecting and using the nature of the horse to our advantage. This way it will be easier for us to establish and maintain a relationship with our horse based on mutual trust and respect. For Juan it is important to always divide any training process in the smallest steps and to only expose our horses to tasks and challenges they are capable of understanding and mastering. Our goal is to turn our horses into confident and motivated mounts that turn to us for help in difficult situations.

The clinics are either general horsemanship and problem- solving clinics or can be focused on more specific topics, such as overcoming bad experiences and (re-) building confidence or colt starting.

Juan offers private and group sessions both at the ranch, in the U.S. and overseas. All breeds and disciplines are welcome.

HORSE TRAINING

Juan believes that the best way to start working with any horse is learning about its natural behavior. He starts on the ground before he moves on to riding as soon as the horse is ready. He designs a special program to fit the individual needs of each horse.

For Juan it is very important to make the owner part of the whole training process. Juan always takes the owner and their goals into account and helps them develop a relationship with their horse. Owners are always encouraged to watch the progress of their horse and to work with their horse themselves under Juan’s guidance. All breeds and disciplines are welcome.

Juan, you challenged us to see the difference between riders and horsemen.

The S. Family, Germany

I really enjoyed being here on the ranch with Gus, the horses and you. Although it would be great if we could stay here for a longer time.

F.S., Germany

We had a great time here with the whole family. It was even better than we expected. We hope to come back. The Z. family, Germany

From the first time when I arrived at your ranch I felt so welcomed and totally forgot about everything else.
